ABOUT MDI
LEGAL STATUS
MDI is both a Registered Charity (No.1040463) and a Company Limited by Guarantee (No.2873008).
As a Charity, MDI operates by Charity Commission regulations and in accordance with the following charitable objects:
" The advancement of public education in the arts of dance and related arts."
As a Company Limited by Guarantee, MDI operates by Companies House regulations and Company Law. However, unlike
private/public companies, MDI does not distribute profits to shareholders but re-invests any surpluses generated back into the Company to pursue its charitable objectives.
GOVERNANCE
As a Registered Charity, MDI is governed by a Board of Trustees, the individual members of which are simultaneously Directors of the Company Limited by Guarantee.
The Board has overall legal responsibility for the management of MDI and meets regularly throughout the year to provide a strategic overview to the organisation.

STAFF TEAM
MDI's Board employ a staff team to carry out the operational and day-to-day activities of the organisation.
Some executive and strategic management functions are delegated from the Board of Trustees to the Director, Karen Gallagher.
The Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Staff Team.

FUNDING
MDI is funded by a combination of Statutory Grant Aid, grants from Charitable Trusts and Foundations, Sponsorship, and Earned Income from studio hire, classes and workshops.
