WORKSHOP CONTENT
This workshop will look at composition through the body, the focusing of compositional and choreographic tools, and the
shaping of material.
"We make work through our own bodies, the bodies around us, and the formal and imaginative elements that support these active
investigations. I'm proposing that we can see in 5 ways, move in 5 ways, compose in 5 layers, and choreograph in a rich
personal combination of these."
"I'd also like especially to explore the proposition that 'the other' has 5 surfaces!"
"'The other' is something about creating a physically and perceptually flexible set of internal and external foci, a form of
being 'something else'. It's about moving, seeing, thinking, creating and touching, as a body, an artist, and as a receptive
'object-in-landscape'."
"We will begin by working with the surfaces of seeing and being body.
What channels do we engage through? What is around us to engage with?
If this landscape is grounded, flexible and detailed, can we be too?
By investigating visual, perceptual and tactile channels, can we make bodies of instant memory that contain our selves and
stories, but stay flexible to the immediate?"
"Over the 3 days the workshop will move between structured input, compositional play, personal and group activity and making
and sharing work. We might even ignite the other, the corresponding voices that surround us!"
The workshop will end with a showing of material.
