DANCE INTENSIVES
The Dance Intensives Programme is a year-long training scheme set up to develop professional dance artists' skills by
offering bi-monthly masterclasses. These classes are led by local, national and international artists with experience in
particular fields. The scheme provides training for professional dancers and recent graduates in contemporary techniques
including Limón, Graham, Cunningham, Contact Improvisation and Body Mind Centering.
The Director of MDI, Karen Gallagher, acknowledges that, "Currently there is little or no provision for artists to pursue
their own dance development on a regular basis. This programme is important not only in terms of enhancing the standard
of work that is being produced by dance artists, but also in the quality of teaching by local dance practitioners. Bringing
talent to Merseyside from the region, the wider United Kingdom and beyond, will provide a much-needed source of inspiration and high
quality technical expertise."
The Dance Intensives training programme is funded by The Leverhulme Trust which contributes towards artists' fees, and
provides bursary opportunities to local dance artists.
