MDI ... INSPIRING PEOPLE THROUGH DANCE
Welcome to the website of Merseyside Dance Initiative (MDI), the regional dance development agency for Merseyside in the North West of England.
Established in 1993, MDI aims to develop dance across Merseyside through Participation, Promotion and Production of the art form.
PARTICIPATION
MDI aims to develop participation in all forms of dance throughout Merseyside. This is achieved through:
- Employing 2 Community Dance Artists, supported by freelance dance artists
- Outreach projects and workshops in schools and community venues
- In-house studio dance classes, workshops and projects
PROMOTION
MDI aims to promote professional dance companies throughout Merseyside. This is achieved through:
- Staging the annual LEAP Contemporary Dance Festival
- Co-promoting professional dance performances at venues across Merseyside
- Hosting residencies by professional dance companies
PRODUCTION
MDI aims to support the production of innovative work by dance artists and companies. This is achieved through:
- A programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Commissioning of new works
- Provision of studio and office space to dance artists
