MANNY EMSLIE - SKINNER RELEASING DANCE INTENSIVE
The fifth Dance Intensive of this Leverhulme Trust programme will be led by Manny Emslie who has performed professionally
and has choreographed for numerous youth, community and professional theatre companies. She has recently been working on
choreographing and directing a short dance for the camera. The finished dance work will be shown as part of the 2008 Liverpool
Capital of Culture Event. Manny is a certified Skinner Releasing Teacher and is currently Head of Dance at Liverpool John Moores
University.
Skinner Releasing is a dance technique that facilitates a deep kinaesthetic experience of movement. Hands-on-tactile studies
(partner-graphics) and imagery help to release hidden tension and blocked patterns of energy. The releasing process allows us
to experience a maximum freedom and ease of movement. Guided poetic imagery is interwoven with music and sound, triggering
spontaneous improvised movement. This approach taps into our imagination and so creative processes and technical growth are
integrated. Experienced dancers and ongoing Releasers continually return for the benefits of these classes. Skinner Releasing
is a considerable influence on leading artists throughout the world and it is widely regarded as a technique that informs the
'feeling, sensing' dancing body as it appears today.
The Dance Intensive takes place at Liverpool John Moores University, The Sudley Studio, IM Marsh Campus, Barkhill Road,
Liverpool from 10am-4pm,Saturday 19th January-Sunday 20th January 2008. The cost is £50/£40.
